Mano a Mano: on the occasion of Homo Faber
As part of the official Homo Faber collateral events this September, The Place of Wonders puts the spotlight on the future of artistic craftsmanship with a special showcase held at Londra Palace Venezia. The event celebrates a meaningful milestone: we proudly present the work of four talented young women who have completed a hands-on training program in the art of Venetian glass bead making, guided by renowned artisans Alessia Fuga and Marisa Convento, in a project conceived and supported by the foundation.
This intricate technique—lampworking, where glass is shaped in a live flame to create unique and delicate beads—is part of a centuries-old tradition, officially recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Passed down through generations, it now finds renewed energy through the dialogue between experienced masters and emerging talents.
Our event resonates strongly with the theme of this year’s Homo Faber, which places a clear focus on nurturing the next generation and valuing education in the crafts. In this spirit, we provide a meaningful platform for young creatives who approach craftsmanship with curiosity, commitment, and care.
With this event, The Place of Wonders renews its mission to keep craft traditions alive by supporting hands-on learning and intergenerational exchange. Looking ahead, the foundation is committed to returning to Venice next year with a second edition of the Mano a Mano project—welcoming new artisan partners who share our values and launching new scholarship programs. The next chapter will be even more focused on training, mentorship, and creating real opportunities for those choosing to shape tradition with their own hands.
