Le Mani d’Oro: A Book to Introduce Young People to the Future of Artistic Craftsmanship

The Place of Wonders Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of Le Mani d’Oro – 10 Stories of Great Italian Master Artisans, a book created as part of the educational project of the same name developed by Librì Progetti Educativi, in collaboration with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte.

Through the texts of Claudio Castellacci and Patrizia Sanvitale and the illustrations of Ilaria Urbinati, the book takes students and teachers on a journey into the world of Italian artistic craftsmanship, exploring its cultural value, creativity, and remarkable relevance in today’s world through the stories of ten master artisans.

From tailoring to violin making, from glassmaking to ceramics, from leather craftsmanship to jewellery, as well as restoration, textiles, and paper arts, Le Mani d’Oro offers a unique insight into some of the traditions and skills that have helped make Made in Italy a symbol of excellence worldwide.

The volume is the heart of a broader educational programme designed for schools, with the aim of introducing younger generations to the heritage of artistic craftsmanship and encouraging them to discover professions that continue to play a vital role in the cultural and economic life of our country.

For The Place of Wonders Foundation, this project represents a particularly meaningful expression of its mission to promote and preserve artistic craftsmanship among younger audiences. We believe it is essential to show new generations that craftsmanship is not a second-choice career path, but a meaningful and rewarding profession that can offer both personal fulfilment and professional success. Through the stories of master artisans who have built their lives and careers on talent, passion, and dedication, Le Mani d’Oro seeks to restore visibility and prestige to professions that safeguard our cultural heritage while continuing to offer inspiring opportunities for the future.
